Animation Stills

I've started making my first animation! It's going to be a music video, here are some of the first stills. Took me two whole days to animate 20 seconds of film (only 220 more seconds to go!).

Musical Mini-Zine

Latest mini-zine endeavour!
Currently working on one called Musical Instruments I Wish I Could Play, pretty self explanatory really.

University

I think I'm still a bit surprised that I actually managed to make it to university but anyway, here I am.

For one of the first projects we got set I did a mini-zine called Disguises featuring portraits of people with a set of acetates to lay over the portraits. The acetates had disguises drawn on them, so you could transform them into Robert Smith or a 70s football pundit or whatever.

After not getting onto Illustration and Animation (sob sob sob) I'm now on Interactive Arts. My course has been pretty weird so far, interesting but very jumbled up. It doesn't help that I haven't been in as much as I should either! Depression and anxiety, my old nemeses.

Miranda July

This week I saw Miranda July's new film, The Future, at Cornerhouse in Manchester and it was wonderful. I also re-read her first book, No One Belongs Here More Than You which is also wonderful.

Sketchbook

Finally finished my Foundation course and will be off to Manchester Met in September! Animal A-Z zine is finally COMPLETE (although still needs colouring and collating and photocopying and things, the drawings are all done anyway!). I've mainly just been scribbling about in my sketchbook recently although now I've finished college for summer I really want to start submitting work to zines and things again, will see how I go.

Recent sketchbook page featuring some lyrics from  one of my favorite Magnetic Fields songs.

More A-Z Japes

I've just started drawing again after a having a really horrendous month. It was (no) thanks to loads of horrible things that have happened over the last year or so that finally all came to the surface and got a bit overwhelming. I'm feeling much better now though and finally feel like I'm starting to get back on my feet and actually wanting to start drawing again!

These are two illustrations that make up part of my Animal A-Z zine/project/whatever, very nearly finished it now! Only V onwards to go.

Also, this is my submission for the Endangered A-Z project that Creature Magazine have been running, I got allocated the letter F - fish-eating bat. Oh what a lovely chap he is.

Offbeat Poster / Offboat!

This is the main part of my poster for the wonderfulexcellentamazing Offbeat, they're having a disco night on a boat! Pretty much going to be the best thing ever. I suppose this is also my first ever commission, lovely!

Lovely Margays

"The Margay (Leopardus wiedii) is a spotted cat native to Middle and South America. It is a solitary and nocturnal animal that prefers remote sections of the rainforest. It roams the rainforests from Mexico to Argentina." Hell yeah it does.

A-Z

I'm keepin' on keepin' on with my A-Z of animals project / zine / whatever. Here is J and K.

Melancholy Cats

Let today go down as the day I discovered the 'Screen' layer option in Photoshop. Here is a picture of a cat.

Edinburgh Portraits

Here are a couple of portraits I did on the train back from Edinburgh where I'd been for an "Applicant Day" (apparently they weren't allowed to use the word interview?). These two were for this Illustration Rally brief. I've done a Bj√∂rk one as well but it's not finished!

...and some more that weren't done on a train. As you can probably tell, I've been going a bit mad with portraits over the last day or two.

Typical Girls Zine

I occasionally organise gigs and DJ under the name Typical Girls with the aim of supporting female musicians and bands. I was inspired by the most excellent and amazing Atta Girl in Birmingham, as well as growing up listening to lots of female musicians and discovering riot grrrl in my early teens.
Since I haven't put as many gigs on recently as I would have liked to, I've decided to start another illustration zine which will include portraits of some of the amazing, subversive women who've inspired me most over the years. Rad.

More People Drawing

I've known Liz since I was about six, so i thought she wouldn't mind if I had a go at drawing her! (Yes, she is drinking beer through a straw.)

Vivian Girls

I needed to do some people-drawing practice and since I've been totally in love with Vivian Girls' new album (and rediscovering all their old albums!) lately I thought they would make good candidates.

Lovely Squids

It's true, I do! They are the queens of the sea indeed.

White Corolla

I have no idea why I haven't posted this before, it's pretty much the best thing ever. It's Julia Pott's music video for White Corolla by Casiotone for the Painfully Alone and it's SO GOOD.

Crayons and Envelop

This is also in the mini-zine I made yesterday, lovely.

Opened an Envelop shop today, this tote bag will be in it shortly, would it be really sad if I bought one for myself? Buying one anyway!

Mini-Zine

Can't actually stop drawing lately, I think I may have a problem. Been mega busy today finishing things off / sorting out my portfolio for an interview at Kingston Uni on Thursday, but knocked up a mini-zine tonight just for chillz.

It's basically a list of my favourite things, so therefore naturally includes cats and records.

Zines!

These are the first two pages of a new illustration zine I've just started working on, basically an A-Z of slightly strange / obscure animals.
I'm on J at the minute so almost halfway finished!

...and MORE

This amazingness is pretty much the best thing I've seen all week.

New Fave Illustrator ALERT

Well, one of many, many, many new faves, but Laura Gee's work really stood out to me, so much love for it. Especially love her 3D work which is something I'd never even thought about in the context of illustration before!

Gocco Gocco Gocco Oh My Word!

So I've played around with screenprinting a bit at college before and really liked it. I read a couple of articles on how you can do it at home and things but it all looked too complicated / I haven't got the space etc. I'd heard the word 'gocco' floating around on illustration blogs and things but just assumed it was something you'd get done professionally, like taking images to the printers or whatever. But I just stumbled across THIS:
(ignore the Valentines part, ugh)

Oh my word, I'm not going out until I've saved up for one of these (I'm so lame).

Photocopying Joy

Have spent a ridiculous amount of time by the photocopier today. I really like working on top of photocopies though, I'm going to try copying onto tracing paper and acetate next and layering images up over each other.
